Lorenzo Sonego vs Sebastian Korda head to head

The pair have met three times before, with Sonego leading their two-game-to-one head-to-head streak.

All three games took place last year, Sonego won on hard courts in Montpellier and San Diego, but Korda triumphed on clay in Parma.

Sonego ends the fairy tale of Simon

Sonego started his campaign in Metz with a bit of an upset, beating number seven seed Aslan Karatsev and earning him a second-round match against veteran Gilles Simon.

And the Italian found himself as the play’s villain against a man who played in one of his last tournaments before retiring and who had the enthusiastic support of his home fans.

Sonego earned the only break point of the first set, but couldn’t convert it and it went into a tie break, which he subsequently won.

And then he secured an early break in the second set, followed by another.

To his credit, Simon immediately withdrew one, but despite his best efforts, his race and tournament went ahead.

Korda’s fourth quarterfinal of the year

Korda enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2021, finishing second at Delray Beach and then winning his first senior title in Italy on clay.

And his form was good enough to earn him a place at the NextGen Finals in Milan, where he reached the final before losing to Carlos Alcaraz, who later became world number one.

2022 has yet to reach those heights, but he has now reached his fourth quarter-finals of the year after back-to-back wins in France, starting with local Hugo Gaston, world No. 79, although he was in their match to a tie-break led in the second set.

That earned him a draw against fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, and the story of that game was pretty much the same as his first.

A break of serve was enough to give him the opener and then he defeated his opponent in the tie break in the second set.

Sonego v Korda prediction and tip

According to the bookmakers, Korda is the clear favorite for this game, although their head-to-head record suggests otherwise. Given that they rarely go wrong, the American should progress, although he could be closer than the market is currently suggesting.
