What you should know

The Penn State Nittany Lions will attempt to defend their home turf against the Central Michigan Chippewas at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. After both teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one of them faces a disheartening turnaround.

You can’t lose the contest if you’re winning every quarter, and that was Penn State’s strategy against the Auburn Tigers last week. The Nittany Lions won their matchup against Auburn by a convincing 41-12 score. The oddsmakers sided with Penn State, but they didn’t give the team enough credit as the lead was unexpectedly large. Their RB Nicholas Singleton looked sharp as he rushed with ten carries on two TDs and 124 yards. Singleton put himself on the highlight reel in the fourth quarter with a 54-yard TD scramble.

Penn State’s defense was also present as it embarrassed Auburn’s offensive line to sack the quarterback six times for a total loss of 41 yards. It was a group effort with six people contributing to it.

Meanwhile, CMU sat down on the board against Bucknell Bison last week, but Bucknell never followed suit. CMU injured Bucknell at home at 41 to nothing. The game was pretty much over by the end of the third, by which time CMU had built up a 20 to nothing advantage. RB Lew Nichols III had an excellent game for the Chippewas as he rushed for two TDs and 166 yards on 30 carries.

This next competition looks promising for the Nittany Lions, who are favored by a full 28 points. They were consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (2-0) so could be worth a quick bet.

The wins put Penn State 3-0 and CMU 1-2. A couple of offensive stats to keep in mind as you watch: Penn State comes into the matchup and boasts the 23rd most offensive touchdowns in the nation with 16. The Chippewas showed their own offensive firepower coming into play, averaging 317.7 yards per game, good for the 18th-best in the nation.
